INSPIRATION

Life-changing injuries can have a profound impact on almost every aspect of an individual's life.

Beyond the physical consequences, they affect one’s mental and emotional well-being. The destructive and all-consuming effects can permeate every aspect of their life.

THE AFTERMATH

In the aftermath of such injuries, previous work, educational pursuits, interests, and hobbies, often become unattainable.

Suddenly all ambitions, hopes, and future plans are crushed in a matter of seconds.

THE CONSEQUENCES

The negative consequences of injuries extend beyond the individuals themselves, affecting their relationships and close family members as well.

Life-changing injuries disrupt and challenge their sense of identity, self-esteem, body image and overall quality of life.

LOSS OF PURPOSE

The loss of purpose and meaningful occupation, coupled with the stigma surrounding mental health and physical disabilities, can make it easier for individuals to confine themselves to their home.

Facing the outside world can seem daunting even when using a wheelchair, prosthetic limbs or with walking aids.

“I feel frustrated and low; I used to have a reason to get up in the morning and I enjoyed my work I felt important and useful”.

“It is 5 years since my accident, and I still don’t feel confident to socialise or to go on holiday. I feel deep trepidation, fear, and anxiety around the idea of leaving home”.

“I loved university, but the thought of going back since my injuries is terrifying, I just can’t imagine how I would cope with my studies and all the complications of my disability. I am scared, it seems too big a hurdle to climb, my bedroom feels so much safer”.

OUR FOUNDER

Holly King, inspired by her work with life-changing injuries in the Royal Army Medical Corps, recognised the profound physical and mental challenges they posed. Upon starting her private practice in Devon, she saw a significant gap in rehabilitation services and felt compelled to provide more than just physical support.

She observed the incredible impact of informal mentoring on her young patients, leading them to pursue education, successful careers, sporting opportunities, and even entrepreneurship. Holly understood that such mentoring thrived when opportunities were available.

Stride Forward and our dedicated team are the result of years of experience and development, aiming to transform lives through mentoring and support.
